The contrast between the regular verse and the larger marginal marks makes the surrounding space conspicuous. These marks may record a different kind of engagement from a sustained commentary; their purpose cannot be established from appearance alone.

What does the note add to the passage beside it—an explanation, a correction, or another reading? Its placement invites that question; establishing its meaning requires a careful transcription.
