Two compact notes occupy the left margin of a rose-coloured page, outside the ruled text panel.

The clear separation between the main passage and the smaller notes makes this a particularly legible example of writing in the margin. The difference in scale lets the eye move between a continuous text and shorter additions without confusing their positions.

A question for the reader

What does the note add to the passage beside it—an explanation, a correction, or another reading? Its placement invites that question; establishing its meaning requires a careful transcription.
